Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026 (added the optional stats under each listing)

This policy covers the KW Metrics for Etsy sellers browser extension. It works together with your KW Metrics account, so our main Privacy Policy applies as well.

1. What the extension reads

On Etsy search pages the extension reads only the words you searched for, taken from the web address (the q= part).

If you switch on the optional "Show stats under each listing" setting, it also reads the listing numbers (the digits in the /listing/… links of the results on the page) so it can show each result's stats underneath it. It reads nothing else on Etsy's pages: not the listing pictures or text, not shop pages, not your account, not your browsing history. This setting is off until you switch it on. The extension does nothing on any other website.

2. What is sent to KW Metrics

Only when you click Analyze, the extension sends the search words, the country you chose in its settings, and your connection key to app.kwmetrics.com, over an encrypted connection. We answer with the keyword's numbers (search volume, competition, difficulty and similar), which come from Etsy's official API and Google Keyword Planner.

With "Show stats under each listing" switched on, it sends the listing numbers found on the page (up to 64 at a time) and your connection key. We answer with each listing's public numbers from Etsy's official API: views, favorites, when it was posted, and its shop's age and total sales.

3. What we record

For every Analyze click we keep a record in your KW Metrics account: the keyword, the country, the time, whether the answer came from data we had already saved, and how many search credits it used. For every batch of listing stats we keep the time, how many listings it covered and the search credits used (not the listing numbers themselves). We use these records to show you your own history, to manage your search credits, and to keep our use of Etsy's and Google's services within their limits. Records are kept while your account is active, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.

4. What stays on your computer

Your connection key and chosen country are stored in your browser's extension storage on your own computer. They are not synced to other devices and are never visible to the websites you visit: only the extension's background worker uses the key. Removing the extension removes them.

5. What we do not do

We do not sell or share this data with advertisers. The extension has no ads, no third-party analytics or trackers, and it does not load or run code from outside the extension.

6. Permissions the extension asks for

  • Storage: to remember your connection key, country and whether you hid the panel.
  • Access to etsy.com search pages: to show the KW Metrics panel next to your search results, read the search words, and (only if you switch it on) read the listing numbers and draw the stats under each result.
  • Access to app.kwmetrics.com: to send the Analyze request and receive the answer.

7. Your choices

You can remove a connection key at any time in your dashboard under Chrome Extension, which stops the extension working immediately. You can uninstall the extension whenever you like. To delete your records or ask a question, contact us.

8. Not affiliated with Etsy

The term "Etsy" is a trademark of Etsy, Inc. This extension uses Etsy's official API through KW Metrics and is not endorsed or certified by Etsy, Inc.

9. Changes

If we change what the extension does with data, we will update this page and the extension's store listing before the change takes effect.
