How to read your Etsy Ads numbers

Etsy Ads reporting gives you the raw numbers — spend, impressions, clicks, orders — but it doesn't tell you outright whether a campaign is actually profitable. That takes a couple of extra calculations.

ROAS (return on ad spend)

Revenue divided by ad spend. A ROAS of 1.00x means the ad exactly paid for itself. Below 1.00x, you're losing money on ad spend alone — before even factoring in Etsy's selling fees on the resulting sale.

ROI (return on investment)

(Revenue − Ad Spend) ÷ Ad Spend, shown as a percentage. This is the same underlying math as ROAS, just framed as a percentage gain or loss instead of a multiplier.

CTR, CPC, and conversion rate

Click-through rate (CTR) tells you whether your listing's thumbnail and title are compelling enough to earn a click when shown. Cost per click (CPC) is what you're actually paying per visitor. Conversion rate tells you, of the people who did click, how many actually bought — a weak conversion rate on a strong CTR usually points to the listing photos, price, or reviews, not the ad itself.

FAQ

Common questions about Etsy Ads ROI

What is a good ROAS for Etsy Ads?

Above 1.00x means the ad paid for itself, but since Etsy still takes its own selling fees out of that revenue, most sellers aim for 3x or higher to be genuinely profitable after fees.

How is Etsy Ads ROI calculated?

(Revenue − Ad Spend) ÷ Ad Spend, where Revenue is orders attributed to the ad × your average order value.

What is a good CTR for Etsy Ads?

Commonly 1-3% depending on category. Lower than that often points to a thumbnail or title that isn't compelling for the keywords it's being shown against.

Should I include Etsy's selling fees in my ROAS target?

Yes — a 1.00x ROAS only means the ad paid for itself, not that the sale was profitable once Etsy's listing, transaction, and payment processing fees are factored in.
